9.1 Fields which were in production or received development plan approval by Wednesday 17 March 1999 are listed in alphabetical order in this chapter.
9.2 The use of the term "field" in this chapter and elsewhere in the report does not imply that all fields are necessarily geographically separate accumulations or are regarded as separate fields for tax and royalty purposes.
9.3 The operator of each field is given in brackets at the top of the field information column. The figures for peak production, recoverable reserves originally present and the date for the first year of peak production are operators estimates. The reserves figures quoted may therefore not be precisely comparable with each other or with the official figures in this report, because differences exist in the procedures and assumptions adopted by the various companies and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in assessing reserves.
9.4 Additional remarks, the derivation of field names and, where appropriate, water depth, oil gravity and sulphur content are also based on information supplied by operators.
9.5 There have been some minor differences in the way operators have presented information to the DTI. For example, some field entries show the date of discovery including the month, others show only the year. Where the date of the first significant discovery provided by the operators differs from DTI’s, the date held by the DTI has been used. Similarly, where information given by an operator about companies’ percentage interests in a block differs from DTI’s records, DTI’s figures have been used, although every effort has been made to clarify any differences before publication.
9.6 Information about substantial discoveries which had not received development plan approval by 17 March 1999 can be found in Appendix 3. This lists significant discoveries in date order.
9.7 The plate number shown under the map reference heading for each individual field entry refers to the map section contained at the end of the report. Where a field is to be found in both the smaller and larger scale map sections, the larger scale reference has been given.
9.8 The operator’s estimate of
recoverable reserves and peak production for individual field entries are shown in the
following way:

9.9 The following offshore oil fields have ceased production: Crawford (December 1990), Blair (June 1991), Linnhe (March 1993), Argyll (October 1992), Duncan (October 1992), Innes (October 92), Angus (January 1995), Staffa (December 1994), Emerald (February 1996) and Donan (December 1997). The following offshore gas fields have also ceased production: Forbes (February 1993), Esmond (March 1995) and Gordon (March 1995), Camelot North East (June 1998) and Cleeton (October 1998).
9.10 Following the completion of the merger between BP and Amoco, BP Amoco is shown, where appropriate, as the operator for fields previously operated by BP and Amoco.
