APPENDIX 1 Review of Fields

GUIDANCE TO READERS

Fields which were in production or received development plan approval by 16 March 2001 are listed in alphabetical order in this chapter. Offshore and onshore fields are separated, with offshore fields being listed first. The location of the fields is shown by a grid reference which links to the maps at the end of this report.

The use of the term "field" in this appendix and elsewhere in the report does not imply that all fields are necessarily geographically separate accumulations or are regarded as separate fields for tax and royalty purposes. The recoverable reserves quoted for each field are proven plus probable reserves.

The operator of each field is given in brackets at the top of the field information column. The figures for peak production, recoverable reserves originally present and the date for the first year of peak production are operators estimates. The reserves figures quoted may therefore not be precisely comparable with each other or with the official figures in this report, because differences exist in the procedures and assumptions adopted by the various companies and the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) in assessing reserves.

Additional remarks relating to water depth, oil gravity, and suphur content are also based on information provided by operators.

Where the date of the first significant discovery provided by the operators differs from DTI’s, the date held by the DTI has been used. Similarly, where information given by an operator about companies percentage interests in a block differs from DTI’s records, DTI’s figures have been used, although every effort has been made to clarify any differences before publication.

Information about significant discoveries which had not received development plan approval by 16 March 2001 can be found in Appendix 5. This lists significant discoveries in date order.

The operator’s estimate of recoverable reserves and peak production for individual field entries are shown in the following way:

Oil = million tonnes
Gas = billion cubic metres
Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) = million tonnes
Condensates = million tonnes

Information on conversion factors is available in Appendix 17.

The following fields have ceased production:

Offshore Oil: Crawford (Dec 90), Blair (June 91), Argyll, Duncan and Innes (Oct 92), Linnhe (Mar 93), Staffa (Dec 94), Angus (Jan 95), Emerald (Feb 96), Donan (Dec 97), Dauntless and Durward (Apr 99), Moira (Apr 99), Maureen (Oct 99), Bladon (Apr 00) and Blenhiem (Apr 00).

Offshore Gas: Forbes (Feb 93), Esmond and Gordon (Mar 95), Camelot North East (Jun 98) and Cleeton (Feb 99).

Onshore Oil: Scampton (Mar 98)
